The Administration Department is responsible for Building, Zoning, and Code Enforcement and thus permitting and monitoring construction and the sale or transfer of properties within Berkeley. This Department is also responsible for the enforcement of property maintenance, building and life safety, and zoning code. This is accomplished by conducting building inspections and enforcing code regulations as required by applicable state and local codes.
Other functions include enforcement of the Village’s code for residential and commercial properties, reviewing building plans, and inspecting construction projects. Additionally, this Department is responsible for the inspection of properties prior to the sale or transfer of a property. Inspections are conducted to ensure properties meet Village and State codes of life, safety, and property maintenance.
The Department is involved with citizens, realtors, architects, contractors, developers and builders, and other government entities, providing assistance at every step in the building or selling process from the initial stage to the final inspection of the completed project or sale (or transfer) of a property.
